Dear Ms. Patrick,
My name is Robert Cowan, but I go by Bobby and I am from Dallas, Texas. I attended Highland Park High School and have lived in Dallas all my life. I am a freshman and plan on majoring in business. I like sports, hunting, fishing, country music and just hanging out with friends. My favorite sport is football and I am a big Dallas Cowboys fan. I was very disappointed and upset when the Cowboys lost last Sunday, but I believe that as long as the they do not lose any key players or coaches, then they will win the Super Bowl next year. However, I would rather watch college football then professional football. Overall I am a big sports fan and enjoying watching sports games.
My dad has always been an outdoors type of person and he is the main reason why I like hunting so much. My dad and I love going out to our farm in west Texas and relaxing in the country. The country is very laid-back and you do not have to worry about traffic, pollution, or crowded places. I enjoy hanging out and listening to country music during my spare time. Some of my favorite country artists are Randy Rogers, Pat Green, George Strait, and Garth Brooks. I am a very easy-going and laid-back person and I think I get that from being in the country so much.
Since coming to TCU I feel like I am a new man and a better person. College was a big change from high school, especially since I pledged a fraternity. Sigma Chi taught me responsibility, time-management, and also made me a better person overall. Although the first semester of my freshman year was tough because of pledgeship, I now know what it takes to be a successful student in college and how to balance my social life and my academic responsibilities. Rushing made me branch out and meet new people, and now I feel that I am more outgoing and have a diverse group of friends to rely on. My fraternity changed who I am for the better, and pledging was the most significant occurrence that affected my experience at TCU.
I am going to try really hard in this class and do the best I can on all of the assignments. I’m an average writer and sometimes I have a hard to time getting started and expanding on my ideas. It sometimes takes me a long time to write a paper, but it usually turns out good in the end as long as I give it my all and have people peer edit my writing. If I need help with my grammar I can go to the writing center in the library, but if I need help with the flow and direction of my papers then I won’t hesitate to go to you for help. I have read, understand and agree to the terms of the syllabus and will try my best on everything.
Sincerely,
Bobby Cowan

I really enjoyed reading your introductory blog and getting to know more about you. Your willingness to try your hardest is certain to transform you from your description of yourself as an 'average writer' into a strong writer. As I've mentioned in class, practice and effort are key elements in developing skill as a writer. I'm looking forward to having you in class this semester!
